Eleventh emission
(printed by el Banco de México)
In 2018 onwards, the production and circulation of the new banknote emission called "Historical identity and natural heritage" began, with a complete change in the design of these, since 1994, with the fourth emission, the effigy and the predominant color in all notes, only carrying out new designs. The main reasons for this change are:
Based on the studies and analysis carried out, the characteristics of the new family of banknotes approved by the Governing Board of the Bank of Mexico are as follows:
The new family will comprise 6 denominations: 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 pesos, the latter will only be issued if it is considered that this banknote is required to meet the needs of users. In the case of the 20 pesos denomination, it will gradually cease to circulate as a banknote and will be replaced by coin, this as a result of various technical and cost-benefit studies that have been carried out. Notwithstanding the foregoing, on September 24, 2021, a 20 pesos banknote was issued to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Consummation of National Independence but the Director of Issuance of the Bank of Mexico confirmed that this commemorative note will be the last to be manufactured in this denomination. The discontinuation of the banknote means that that denomination will be covered in the future only with coins.
Similar, as far as possible, to those of the current family, but improving the differences in color between the denominations to prevent them from being confused with each other.
The distribution of the current family is maintained, that is, two denominations (50 and 100 pesos) in polymer and the others in cotton substrate. Likewise, it was issued in polymer the 20 pesos banknote Commemorating the Bicentennial of the Consummation of National Independence.
Security elements are improved compared to those of the current family, incorporating state-of-the-art measures for the different groups of banknote users, such as the general public, commercial banks, shops, manufacturers of automated banknote processing equipment and the Central Bank. In these new banknotes, in addition of the impression of sensible marks to the tact, the multicolored denomination is incorporated and in the last three denominations the dynamic thread, as the main measures for their authentication by the public.

Banco de México offers an application that allows communication with the population to be strengthened by disseminating the security elements and artistic elements of Mexican banknotes in a didactic and interactive way.
This version seeks to generate new experiences with users by observing the banknotes of that issue under the "Augmented Reality" (AR) modality, and highlighting the spectrum of security elements and artistic details, superimposing virtual elements. But obviously this is not included in the banknotes, it is the application that, recognizing the new banknote with the smartphone's camera, creates an animation that follows the shape of the note adding a specific sound.
The application is intended to be used for educational purposes only, so it does not determine the authenticity of banknotes.
First, on August 27, 2018, the 500 pesos bill was introduced. Then the 200 pesos one was put into circulation on September 2, 2019, the 100 pesos one in polymer on November 12, 2020, the 1000 pesos one on November 19, 2020, the 20 pesos one (commemorative) on September 24, 2021 and the 50 pesos one on November 1, 2021.
If necessary, the denomination of 2000 pesos will be issued.
The Bank of Mexico classify this emission in the family G.
Commemoratives:
