Banco de México offers an application that allows communication with the population to be strengthened by disseminating the security elements and artistic elements of Mexican banknotes in a didactic and interactive way.
This version seeks to generate new experiences with users by observing the banknotes of that issue under the "Augmented Reality" (AR) modality, and highlighting the spectrum of security elements and artistic details, superimposing virtual elements. But obviously this is not included in the banknotes, it is the application that, recognizing the new banknote with the smartphone's camera, creates an animation that follows the shape of the note adding a specific sound.
The application is intended to be used for educational purposes only, so it does not determine the authenticity of banknotes.
First, on August 27, 2018, the 500 pesos bill was introduced. Then the 200 pesos one was put into circulation on September 2, 2019, the 100 pesos one in polymer on November 12, 2020, the 1000 pesos one on November 19, 2020, the 20 pesos one (commemorative) on September 24, 2021 and the 50 pesos one on November 1, 2021.
If necessary, the denomination of 2000 pesos will be issued.
The Bank of Mexico classify this emission in the family G.
Commemoratives:
The 20 pesos denomination will gradually cease to circulate as a banknote and will be replaced by coin. However, on September 24, 2021, the Bank of Mexico issued a new "Commemorative" note of 20 pesos on the occasion of the Bicentennial of the Consummation of National Independence.
